Vitamin/Mineral Lab {Fruit Salsa and Cinnamon Chips}

IMG_8817We use this yummy recipe to analyze vitamins and minerals. I change the fruit around and use what’s in season. The frozen fruit works well in the fall and winter months. This season I chose strawberries and blueberries, apples and bananas. I usually show students how to peel a kiwi with a spoon, but the kiwi were too hard at the store and I had no time to ripen them.

Cinnamon chips are a favorite way to add complex carbs.

They got into the dicing of the fruits very well.

IMG_8813The fruit salsa and cinnamon chips were enjoyed by most of the students, especially Juraj.

And what is that on Anthony’s head? It’s our new Go Pro camera. We are doing a dry run of video and hoping to put something fun together for you.

Students used supertracker with the myrecipe link to analyze the vitamins and minerals in their recipe. They discovered blueberries were the highest source of antioxidant (a fact on their next test). It’s always nice to sneak those test questions into lab 🙂
