We finished up our discussion on using semi-homemade ingredients verses homemade. Since we’ve made homemade pie crust before, this recipe was definitely quicker and easier to to make using store-bought pie crusts.
Students agreed the pie crust was so much easier to work with and clean up. This made this recipe a speed-scratch recipe.
They still got to make something homemade, but it was semi-homemade since the pie crusts was store-bought and we used store-bought strawberry jam and apple butter.
The homemade frosting made the pop tarts look more scratch made and delicious.
Of course, sprinkles makes everything look better according to students.
